You’ll be working on a wide variety of challenging and interesting projects, across a range of different sectors and industries. Coming from an established background in experience design, you’ll be able to jump straight into a project, identify assumptions and research opportunities, and plan your deliverable work alongside diverse development teams.

You’ll be part of our small team of UX designers, strategists and researchers, who work directly with clients. You’ll help decide how our clients' products and services look and behave and have input and provide recommendations for new features, and work with product teams to build valuable, beautiful products for their users.

You’ll be comfortable working with your teammates to help you create and define these experiences, and challenge yourself, the team, and the company to be constantly improving. You're not the kind of person that likes to be handheld - you're independent and want to give everything a try, but understand that good design is born from good collaboration. You’ll want to share your knowledge from other projects and ways of working and relish the chance to learn from others, too.

Plus, as you’ll be working as part of a small team, you’ll have a real opportunity to shape The User Story and the work you do. You’ll even be able to aid the design of our own digital products.

Here’s a brief rundown of some of the activities you might get up to in one of our projects:

  • Making an inventory of content across an application
  • Identifying UI patterns across a platform
  • Conducting user research to understand issues across the UI
  • Prioritising which areas to focus on
  • Creating and maintaining an assumption log, and working with researchers to test hypotheses
  • Building an information architecture and testing it with users
  • Creating a content hierarchy and layout design
  • Maintaining a design system
  • Working with developers to understand best practices
  • Running sessions to gather feedback from stakeholders and developers
  • Facilitating workshops
  • Identifying opportunities and next steps
  • Collaborating with UX Strategists on the product roadmap

This is a 6-month contract position, with the possibility of turning into a permanent position for the right person, and if we're in the position to do it!

Every day at The User Story, we live out our four values. They shape everything we do, the decisions we make and the way we approach our work, and most importantly, the way we treat each other.

So, if you would like to apply, we want to know why you want to work with The User Story, how you live our four values, and whether you’re a cat or a dog person.
